Investigator Initiated Trials

Investigator initiated trials (IITs) are trials where the institute or another non-commercial entity sponsors the trial. They are usually funded by non-commercial sources such as via NHMRC or MRFF. They include a wide range of interventions in a wide range of settings. They range from local trials with a handful of subjects to large international trials with thousands of subjects. IITs are run by many groups across the RCH/MCRI campus and MCTC provides all levels of support – from simply providing advice to running the entire trial. MCTC provides assistance from the idea phase all the way to study completion.

MCTC also provides assistance with regulatory requirements such as CTN and trial registration.

New initiatives supported by MCTC include Embedded Trials which maximise use of the electronic Health Record and Adaptive Platform Trials.

If you are new to trials the Melbourne Children's Research Hub is a great resource. For procedures, in depth guidance and specific materials see the CRDO website
